Wilmslow Wells will be holding their first Souperday of the year at St John's Church Rooms on Thursday 24th February.
The charity hold two Souperdays each year, during the schools' half term holidays in February and October, and they were delighted with the success of their last Souperday which raised just over £1450.
Helen Battilana, Chairman of Wilmslow Wells said "Wilmslow Wells for Africa has run twice-yearly Souperdays for many years and we have a solid band of supporters who always turn up to enjoy delicious soup and bread, both of which are home-made.
"There is always a warm welcome for newcomers and we know they will be pleased to support a very worthwhile cause whilst enjoying an event for our local community. We are always complimented on our cake stall, all home-made as well, and welcome contributions to it."
A choice of four soups accompanied by different sorts of bread will be served between 11am and 2pm at St John's Church Rooms on Knutsford Road. There will also be home produce for sale, a good-as-new stall and a selection of tempting home made cakes.
Wilmslow Wells for Africa is a direct action charity which aims to improve life in drought-stricken areas of Africa by providing wells, pumps, dams and water collection equipment.
The charity was started in the early 1980's by Brenda Mottershead, a local teacher who had returned from living for a few years in South Africa and was horrified by the difficulties people had in obtaining clean water - in many parts of Africa the only water available is so polluted that it kills both the humans and wildlife that have to share its source.
They keep administration costs to a minimum, more than 99% of everything they raise is pumped straight into water projects. Over 27 years, Wilmslow Wells have raised £743,000, undertaken over 135 projects (some involving multiple wells) and spent £6514 on running costs.
