Residents are being urged to be aware of the opening times for Wilmslow Leisure Centre over the festive period because from Christmas Eve until January 4th Cheshire East's leisure facilities will operate reduced opening hours due to lower demand.
Councillor Andrew Knowles, Cabinet member with responsibility for health and wellbeing, said: "Customers are advised to check with each centre before their visit in case of changes to activity timetables. On non bank holiday days we have tried to retain a minimal level of service in each area.
"It is important that we operate in a cost-effective way during these financial times by not opening buildings when there is little demand."
Wilmslow Leisure Centre will be open from 8.15am until 1pm on Christmas Eve then it will close for 4 days, reopening from 9am until 5pm on Wednesday 29th December and Thursday 30th.
On New Years Eve the Leisure Centre will be open from 8.15am until 1pm, it will remain closed on New Year's Day, open again from 8.15am until 5pm on Sunday January 2nd and close on Monday the 3rd which is a Bank Holiday. Normal opening hours will resume on Tuesday 4th January.
During extreme weather conditions, opening times may also change from those listed above and fitness buffs will be able to log on to Twitter to check if Wilmslow Leisure Centre has been affected.
Cheshire East Council has embraced the social networking website to provide residents with an easy way to find out if leisure facilities across the area are still open. Customers are advised to log on to the Council's winter alert service at www.twitter.com/cecleisure for the latest updates.
Councillor Andrew Knowles said "Cheshire East Council is going to use as many modern means of communication available as possible to relay information."
Members of the Cheshire East's 'Everybody' fitness scheme, who joined since April 1st, can of course use their membership at any leisure facility in the authority area.
