New play area for South Oak Lane

Cheshire East Council is delighted to have secured funding for 14 new and improved play areas, including South Oak Lane in Wilmslow.

These projects are all part of the second phase of the Playbuilder programme, a national scheme which grants local authorities money to turn local areas into innovative and adventurous play spaces.

The Council is now re-tendering for the project with an announcement on the new contractor being made in early December. Work will then start in February, with the new play area at South Oak Lane due to be completed by Easter.

Each scheme has had their budget reduced by 38 per cent in line with cuts in external funding but Councillor Andrew Knowles, Cabinet member with responsibility for health and wellbeing, said: "I am delighted that these schemes will be going ahead. We will be writing to the groups involved as soon as we have completed the tendering process.

"By next Easter we should have 14 exciting new and improved play areas that will enhance the Cheshire East environment and improve play facilities for young people."
