Lighting Up The Class

Picture 036

Local designer Charlotte Thompson visited a Form 4 Art lesson at Pownall Hall School last week. Having had two children at the school until recently, Charlotte is well accustomed to Pownall.

Form 4 is embarking on an exciting new topic entitled ‘Lighting Up’ where they are to design a lamp and Charlotte came to the school to talk about the nightlights and lamps she designs. She explained to the children that she set up a company named ‘White Rabbit’ after being unable to find a suitable nightlight for her sons when they were young. She showed the class her most recent lamp of a rabbit made of bone china. Others included the first ever lamp made of an earthenware mushroom which has holes in it for the light to shine through.

Charlotte talked to the children about the importance of inspiration; thoughts and ideas you need before you can do anything. She showed the class her scrapbook which is her own source of inspiration; a book filled with pictures, fabric, things she likes, and lots of ideas she can use for her designs.

The children saw some of Charlotte’s lamps lit up so they could see how effective they are.

Perhaps Charlotte can return to Pownall after Christmas to see the lamps Form 4 have designed!
