Attempted armed robbery at Handforth takeaway

Police have asked witnesses to contact them after two men armed with a knife and a metal bar attempted to rob staff at a Handforth takeaway.

One member of staff at the Kansas Fried Chicken Takeaway in Wilmslow Road, Handforth was hit on the head and body with the metal bar but the attackers left empty-handed.

Detective Constable Charlotte Astbury said, "This was a violent incident and was extremely frightening for the staff and for customers, who were told to lie on the floor."

The men ran into the takeaway shop at about 1.30 on Sunday morning. The man carrying the metal bar jumped over the counter, demanding money and then hit a male member of the staff with the bar.

The other offender threatened customers with a knife and told them to lie down. After a few minutes the men ran off in the direction of the Spath Lane estate.

The man with the knife was wearing a red balaclava and dark coloured tracksuit. The knife was small with what appeared to be a lockable blade. The man with the metal baton was wearing dark clothing.

Detective Constable Astbury said, "We would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and saw anything of the incident. We would also like to hear from anyone who has any other information about this robbery"

Anyone with information can contact D.C Astbury on the Cheshire Police Information line 0845 458 0000 or you can leave information anonymously on 0800 555 111.
