Chancellor drops in for a cuppa

Wilmslow Grange Community Primary and Nursery School, in Handforth, held a coffee morning to support Macmillan's World's Biggest Coffee Morning, on Friday 24th September. This was planned and led by the Year 6 class and their teacher, as they felt it was a charity they wished to support.

Headteacher Mrs Joanne Ashcroft said "The children were truly outstanding in their management of the event as they advertised it, encouraged the donation of cakes and biscuits, welcomed guests, served drinks and cakes, and provided entertainment with music and dancing. They even cleared the tables and did the washing up.

"We were thrilled when George Osborne accepted our invitation to attend and support our Coffee Morning. He was a very popular guest, happily speaking with pupils, guests and staff, and even donated some delicious shortbread biscuits!

"The Coffee Morning was a huge success, raising almost £600. I am so proud of the children for making such a positive contribution to this very worthy cause."

Speaking about his visit Chancellor George Osborne said "It was great to see so many parents and members of the local community supporting Macmillan Cancer Support on Friday. Everyone enjoyed themselves - and the children did a wonderful job serving coffee and cakes."
