Wilmslow photographers win national competition

Members from Wilmslow Guild Photographic Society (WGPS) are celebrating their 1st place win in the Digital SLR User Magazine's Battle of the Clubs competition and a £1000 Canon voucher.

Each month, camera clubs in the UK submit their top 3 images as entries for this competition which is sponsored by Canon. Topics range from landscape, wildlife and sport to colour, abstract and architecture. Judges then review every entry and score each of the clubs' images based on the picture impact (creativity, colour and mood), technical quality and composition. Each club's entry can gain up to a maximum of 45 points per round.

The 39 point win for Wilmslow was for the macro round and the results were announced in the September edition of the magazine which is currently on sale.

The winning images, shown above, are "Poppy" by Dave Griffiths, "In a whirl" by Neil Weston and "Droplets" by Kevin Lee.

External Competitions Secretary, Jonathan Rew-Dixon is delighted, "The news about our recent win is a great boost for Wilmslow Guild, the Photographic Society and all our members. It clearly demonstrates the creativity, technical skills and ability of our group – we'll certainly enjoy deciding how to spend the £1000! Let's hope we can continue to build on this success for the rest of this competition."

Wilmslow Guild Photographic Society is for everyone who enjoys taking photographs, whether in digital or traditional film formats, from beginner to expert. New members are always welcome to join. Meetings are held on Wednesday evenings at 7.30pm at The Guild, starting again on 15th September after the summer break. Full details of the 2010-2011 Programme are available on the Society's website.

These and other images from members of the WGPS are available to view via the Facebook group.
