Summer school for budding filmmakers

For the second year Studio Film School are running a Summer Filmmaking Project in Wilmslow. This week long course is open to children aged 7 to 16 years who will work together to produce their own film project.

The film will be not only produced by the children, but they will share the acting, directing, camera operation, crewing and editing whilst being guided by professional filmmakers and acting coaches. There's also the opportunity to create some stunning special effects using prosthetic makeup and green screen technology.

Then at the end of the week, friends and family are invited to attend a gala premiere-style screening complete with an awards ceremony for the full film experience.

Studio Film School was set up last year by a small group of filmmakers, each with an interest in children's cinema. Creative Director Daniel Josephs explained "The idea for Studio Film School grew out of our shared belief that instead of just being able to watch films created by adults, children should have the opportunity to make films for themselves too. We set up Studio Film School in London last year with a couple of pilots, and it grew from there.

"We now hold weekly Saturday workshops as well as a busy holiday programme, regular special events and work with a number of schools in London to bring them after-school activities in filmmaking."

The sister school in Wilmslow came about because Development Director Donna Bamford is from Wilmslow and enjoys any excuse to spend some time here. Daniel said "Last summer we ran a project in Wilmslow, and we're looking forward to delivering another one. The project will be lead by Donna and a couple of our workshop leaders who are all experienced at making films and working with children. We're hoping that we can expand the sister school to include an October half term workshop as well as ongoing holiday activities."

The course is being held at Dean Row Village Hall on Browns Lane from Monday 16th August to Friday 20th August. Each day starts at 10am, but children can be dropped off slightly earlier (from 9.30am) to help parents who may be travelling to work, and finishes at 4pm. The numbers are kept relatively small with a maximum group size of 15 but a few places are still available.

The course is £195 per child, and there is a sibling discount of £175 when enrolling two or more children, which is also extended to friends. For more information please contact Studio Film School on 01625 826934 / 020 7538 8521 or email.
