Adlington Road closed for gas works

The A5102 Adlington Road in Wilmslow is now closed between the Macclesfield Road mini-roundabout and the B5358 Dean Row Road roundabout until 5 September 2010.

The road is closed to enable the North West Gas Alliance to renew a medium pressure gas main from Wilmslow Park North to the River Bollin / Vardon Bridge.  A spokesman from Cheshire East said "The work is necessary to ensure gas supplies to the Wilmslow and Macclesfield areas at times of high demand and this work can only be undertaken during the summer months when there is reduced demand for gas supplies."

The alternative route for traffic during this closure is via Hough Lane, A538 Prestbury Road link, A34 dual carriageway bypass north to the Summerfields junction and Dean Row Road or vice versa.

During this shutdown there are associated works to the same gas main on Dean Row Road at the junction with Pinewood Road where temporary 2-way traffic signals will be in operation, instead of the permanent signals. As a result all traffic coming out of Pinewood Road is restricted to turning left to the Summerfields roundabout where vehicles can U-turn to travel east on Dean Row Road.

The spokesman from Cheshire East added "New pipes are being inserted from three directions into the junction under Dean Row Road. There are significant periods of inactivity at the site but the alternative would be repeated deep excavation and backfilling at the same location, with short periods between when the road was fully open."

These works are expected to be completed about 23 August 2010.
