The Highways department at Cheshire East Council has issued a flood warning following heavy rain across Cheshire East today.

The warning comes just two weeks after United Utilities introduced the first hosepipe ban since 1996.

Current forecasts, from the Met Office, suggest the heavy rain is set to continue for the next 24 hours, becoming drier over the coming days.

A spokesman from Cheshire East Council said "We would like to remind residents that surface water could extend to many local roads and to take extra care if you are planning to venture out either in a vehicle or on foot."
