Six foot hole causes traffic restrictions

Traffic on Water Lane remains restricted to one-way whilst urgent works are carried out to repair a collapsed sewer.

The road suddenly collapsed on Monday leaving a hole at least six feet deep, which having been temporarily filled is now being fixed on behalf of United Utilities.

As a result Water Lane is closed to westbound traffic entering from Alderley Road. Eastbound traffic will be restricted to a single lane instead of the usual two lanes when approaching the traffic signals at Alderley Road but is otherwise unaffected by the works.

A spokesman from Cheshire East said "The duration of the works will depend upon ground conditions and the extent of the damage to this deep sewer."

The alternative route for traffic is southerly on the B5086 Alderley Road to Fulshaw Cross / Kings Arms roundabout then northerly on Bedells Lane and Hawthorn Street to rejoin the A538 Water Lane and Altrincham Road.
