Steve Cram inspires Wilmslow High School’s students

One of the UK's most successful middle distance runners and the voice of UK athletics visited Wilmslow High school last week to help inspire the sporting stars of tomorrow.

Steve Cram MBE, the former 1500m and 2000m world record holder and current BBC broadcaster was visiting Wilmslow as part of his role as an ambassador for Yorkshire Bank. During his tour of the school he met staff and students from the Sports College and the Macclesfield School Sports Partnership.

Student Sports Ambassadors, Hannah and Charlotte Kelman acted as guides and were able to explain to Steve how they had benefited from the sports specialism. "Steve was fascinated to hear just how much PE and sport we do here at the High School and how successful we are, not just in competitive sport but also in how much we provide for students of all abilities", said Charlotte.

Steve took part in a question and answer session with our Year 12 PE students, who had researched and prepared questions related to the AS level syllabus, before joining a Year 8 class of students taking part in trails for Sports Day.

Finally, in preparation for our Sports Awards Evening, Steve joined in with an enthusiastic class of Year 8 students to perform the '20 past 12' dance that is designed to raise awareness of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. In a videoed message to all of the sports award winners he congratulated them on there achievements encouraged them to be Olympians of the future.
