Cheshire East Council’s ‘Love Food, Hate Waste’ campaign has been named Champion Trade Stand at this year’s Cheshire County Show. The campaign, which looks to promote the use of leftovers to create quality meals, also claimed 1st place in the Non-agricultural Trade Stand Competition.

Having toured Cheshire East earlier this year with their Love Food Hate Waste Roadshow, which made a stop at Sainsbury's in Wilmslow, the stand celebrates all that is good and great about reducing food waste, creating fun meals for all the family and saving money on food bills.

The Love Food, Hate Waste trade stand included a children’s area, composting zone and kitchen garden and those who visited the stand were given recipe cards, free rice and spaghetti measurers and took part in a ‘more or less’ game, based on Bruce Forsyth’s ‘Play Your Cards Right’, to demonstrate how much food is thrown away each year

Cheshire East Council Leader, Wesley Fitzgerald, said: “I am delighted the ‘Love Food, Hate Waste’ stand has been given these awards. It is a testament to the hard work of all the staff from Cheshire East Council who took part.

“I am very proud to be part of a local authority that fully supports this historic and important show. We are living in difficult economic times and it is a pleasure to see local traders attending an event with so much enthusiasm and vigour.

“Cheshire East is committed to protecting the heritage of the area, of which the Cheshire Show is a vital part. I look forward to this event being a major part of our calendar for many years to come.”

We throw away 8.3 million tonnes of food and drink in the UK every year. The average UK family could make a saving of £50 a month by cutting down on food waste, and by reducing the amount of food that we send to landfill we can also have a positive environmental impact.
