Actors wanted for fast-moving comedy

Wilmslow Guild Players have announced the first play of their 2010-2011 season: the fast-moving comedy “No Dinner For Sinners” by Edward Taylor which will performed from 27th to 30th October.

“We are about to start casting this play”, said publicity officer Bill Beton, “and we’re interested to hear from any amateur actors who fancy getting involved with the Players. In particular, we are looking for the young male lead, who is in his 30s.”

The play is about Jim Watt, who runs the London office of a stock exchange firm. Jim is hosting dinner for the International Director and his wife, who are members of the anti-permissive society. As they strongly disapprove of unmarried couples living together, Jim asks his girlfriend, Helen, to pose as his wife for the evening. This suggestion goes down like a lead balloon and Helen walks out on him, leaving Jim with no partner, no cook and only one last option - his eccentric cleaning lady, Edna, who will do the job for a fee, of course!

The play is being directed by Moyra Hampson, a long-standing member of the Guild Players and very experienced director. Moyra most recently directed “There Goes the Bride”, the highly successful farce.

Auditions are being held at Wilmslow Guild, the adult education centre on Bourne Street, on Wednesday 30th June at 7.45pm. “We always welcome new members, regardless of their level of experience,” said Bill. “So if you fancy it, please come along and meet us at the audition.”

If you’d like to find out more about the audition, or Wilmslow Guild Players generally, you can email them or visit their website. Alternatively, call Bill Beton on 01625 520126.
