Be part of the 'pledge'

Handforth Louise McMahon

Police in Handforth say new-look community meetings will be broader-based, more responsive and more frequent than previous ones. The new “Pledge” meetings will be launched on June 30th.

Police Community Support Officer Louise McMahon said, “These meetings, named after the Policing Pledge, will be held every month; much more frequently than the previous Community Action Meetings.

“That means we will have more time to listen to what people feel are the important issues and we can keep everyone better informed about what we are doing to tackle them.

Her colleague P.C.S.O Gareth Harding said, “We will have representatives from other agencies at the meetings as well. So people can get a complete picture and ask them about issues which are not necessarily police matters.

"For instance, at the first meeting we will update people on what we have been doing about speeding and parking in certain areas where it has caused concern. Council Community wardens will give an update on what they have been doing and a representative from Contour Housing will outline the latest situation on garage refurbishment.”

Louise added, “The Community Action Meetings were very useful. They resulted in more understanding between everybody and a lot of local issues were tackled. The new format will allow people even more opportunity to influence the way they are policed and the way other services are provided. If you care about the area where you live, it is vital that you come long.”

The first Pledge meeting in Handforth is at St Chad’s Church, Wilmslow Road at 7pm on Wednesday June 30th.
