Wilmslow businessman completes gruelling 100km run

100k Run Completed1

Wilmslow based businessman, Tony Machin has completed a gruelling international run which has seen him clock up 100km in just five days. The Group CEO of Wilmslow based European Financial Solutions was part of a team of 10 runners from across the region who have completed the five day running challenge across Europe in aid of the NSPCC Hear Our Cry appeal.

The team, including businessmen Mike Perls, Rob Cotton, Imran Hakim, Simon Peck and comedian John Bishop, has raised more than £100,000 for their efforts.

Starting with the Great Manchester Run the challenge was broken up into 10 separate 10km runs in 10 countries. They faced a number of other challenges along the way when they were nearly thwarted by the volcanic ash cloud.

The team were due to fly to Amsterdam after the Great Manchester Run, but with the flight cancelled they caught the train to London in the hope of getting the Eurostar, only to discover it was fully booked. Instead they decided to catch a ferry to Belgium but were not allowed to travel as foot passengers so they had to hire a minibus and driver.

The team ran the challenges in Brussels, Amsterdam, Cologne, Luxembourg, Geneva, San Remo, Monaco and Nice, before finishing in Barcelona.

Hear Our Cry is a new campaign for the NSPCC in the North West and has been launched to promote awareness of the helpline services provided by the charity, including ChildLine, the UK's free confidential 24-hour helpline for children, and the NSPCC Helpline for adults concerned about a child.
