Storming Chorus!

Wilmslow-based women’s harmony group, Cheshire A Cappella, has just returned from its first foray into full national competition. And what a triumph.

The Sweet Adelines UK National Championships were held at The Sage convention centre in Gateshead where, as complete newcomers, Cheshire A Cappella’s members had the most amazing weekend singing alongside thousands of very accomplished ladies from different established chorus groups around the UK.

Wilmslow resident and Musical Director, Angela Lewis said, “We most definitely held our own. Beating several of the more experienced choruses the way we did, and that includes scoring higher than the chorus that had just won a medal for being the most improved in the UK, is a truly fabulous achievement for us. I couldn’t be prouder”.

Irene Allerton, Cheshire A Cappella’s President, added, “We’re only 1 year old so we’ve definitely set the cat amongst the pigeons on our first trip to the Nationals. As potential winners of a future UK Championships, we’d automatically be entered into International competition which would just be so fantastic”.

In just over a year since its inception, the chorus has developed into a truly vibrant group of more than fifty characterful singers of all ages and backgrounds. It performs regularly at private events and local music festivals around the Wilmslow area singing a growing repertoire of hit numbers, both modern and traditional, many choreographed and in the inimitable energetic style of 4-part a cappella harmony. It’s great fun.

Next year’s Championships are at the Birmingham Symphony Hall so if you can sing, enjoy having fun and fancy joining in the quest for gold medal status, come and join us! You'd be very welcome.
