Students produce their own skateboard designs

Skateboard 2

Wilmslow High School art teacher, Adele White, ran a workshop over a number of months, giving students the opportunity, using computer software and transfer techniques, to design and produce their own skate decks.

The project has been funded courtesy of the Macclesfield School Sport Partnership through Rosie Harris, Partnership Development manager and the High School’s Arts' Xtra programme.

The deck designs, inspired by the Olympic and Paralympic values of excellence, friendship, respect, courage, determination, inspiration and equality are very exciting and reflect the commitment and enthusiasm of the students who returned week after week to design and make them.

The decks were judged by a local skate company 'Distance' with prizes being awarded to the winner, Year 7 student, James Cusworth (second from left front row) and the runner up, Year 8 student Emily Morton (far left back row).

‘Distance’ was set up in 2005 by Nick Parr and his son, Jack who designs the decks. They currently sponsor 15 boys between the ages of 12-18 who have been in European and World Championships.
