The final designs for the 20mph zone which is being introduced in Alderley Edge village centre have been published.

The scheme includes the installation of six speed tables at the following locations: the pelican crossing outside Alderley Edge School for Girls, the pelican crossing near "Running Bear" on London Road, the pelican crossing between Stevens Street and Brown Street on London Road, adjacent to the de Trafford Arms on Congleton Road, the pelican crossing near Alderley Edge Community Primary School on Ryleys Lane and near the entrance to The Ryleys School.

In addition, red textured road surfacing will be added with 20mph roundels painted on the road surface at the railway bridge on Wilmslow Road/London Road, as well as on Congleton Road on the approach to the junction with Beechfield Road.

Cheshire East Highways will shortly be applying to Cheshire East Council for a road closure permit, which must be advertised for 12 weeks prior to the scheme's implementation.

Councillor Craig Browne said "The scheme itself is estimated to take four weeks to implement, with the installation estimated for early February 2023. The scheme is being funded through s.106 contributions raised on historic developments in Alderley Edge, rather than through Council Tax.

"As a reminder, s.106 funds may only be spent on new or upgraded infrastructure and cannot be used to fund routine maintenance."

Key:
Blue - Proposed Signage, entrance/exit to 20mph Zone

Green - Proposed raised tables, at existing traffic controlled pedestrian crossings

Purple - Proposed flat top speed humps

Red - Proposed carriageway surface treatment (20 mph roundels and red coloured surfacing)

What is being done in Wilmslow in particular Gravel Lane - lots of legally parked cars make this road narrow in lots of places - we have 2 playing fields and a school (I know we have 20mph limits near the school) Because its is 30mph does not mean this road is safe. Heavy goods vehicles including waste disposal vehicles travel at an unsafe speed.

Congratulations to Cllr. Craig Browne for achieving this. Those of us who support the 20's Plenty campaign for all residential roads hope that Cheshire East Council will adopt the policy at their forthcoming vote on the topic. It would be safer and quieter for us all!

I have to say. Altrincham road is incredibly dangerous. The speeds are obscene. Needs addressing before someone gets killed (most likely a child). Kings road - despite the old speed bumps is also pretty busy. I happen to live on this road and take great pleasure in making sure the Land Rover / Range Rover / Porsche look at me brigade ….. who treat it like a race track ….enroute to the rugby club have to slow down. I’ve had a few difficult conversations with some of these morons. They don’t listen but I take great pleasure in forcing them to slow down. Perhaps slightly childish. But seriously needs addressing

How are East Cheshire going to deal with the increased emissions that 20mph zones and humps cause. Surely a conflict of ideologies.
All the holier than thou in keen support but no knowledge!!

Simon - don’t worry about speed humps creating carbon. If it stops the speed morons in their tracks. Happy days

Turn your attention to the whole decarbonisation agenda generally. The 1997 Kyoto Protocol was almost 30 years ago - we still hear the same old garbage from the so called political elite and environmentalist philanthropists (the biggest contradiction of words known to man).
All whilst they are gallivant around the world spouting clap trap tripe, at the same very time as their businesses pollute the world for profit maximisation/ shareholder value. Greenwashing buzzword. Again, what on earth does this actually mean? (I don’t need copy of the dictionary definition). Journalists and or the media have allot to answer for.

Why don’t we just say…..the whole concept of economic growth/investment/wealth creation is still predicated on profit maximisation. I mean massive amounts of pension funds are invested in morally bankrupt, corrupt, deceitful and deceiving companies(oil companies for one). But the media love to use corporate nonsense descriptions. Probably makes them feel more intelligent.

I feel so much better for getting this off my chest. Have a great day. Don’t speed on kings road or local roads please. So I support the 20mph limit on local roads, it’s hardly going to transform journey times (….wow that journey took me and extra 5 mins and these speed humps are annoying….or my ridiculously expensive… lowered car which pumps out a load of carbon will get damaged).
