BBC Breakfast visits Wilmslow charity

BBC Interview Oct 22

The team at Bare Necessities Toiletry Bank prepared for the start of National Hygiene Week with a visit from BBC Breakfast News who wanted to learn more about what the charity does.

The news team filmed the donations arriving at the Wilmslow office after being collected from donation points around Cheshire East.

Presenter Jayne McCubbin was then shown by Chair, Wendy Hobson the process by which donations are sorted into product categories before being repacked into tote bags specifically tailored to the recipients' needs. Four types are offered; teen boy and girl, women and men. Each contains all the basic hygiene essentials plus extras focused on the recipient.

Wendy commented, "It was amazing that BBC Breakfast came in to film Bare Necessities Toiletry Bank in action. Jayne was particularly interested in who receives the bags. I explained we have 32 charities across five sectors; women, youth and schools, mother and baby, foodbanks and street homeless, who we supply each month with a total of approx. 200 bags.

Wendy continued, "Whilst National Hygiene Week runs from 3 rd to 9th October this year and helps to raise awareness of hygiene poverty and its impact on those pulled into poverty, this isn't just a one week issue that goes away. The feature by BBC will continue to highlight what we do and how people can help by donating."
