Fire involving 70 hay bales being treated as arson

Three fire engines from Wythenshawe, Macclesfield and Wilmslow attended a fire on Burleyhurst Lane, Wilmslow on Sunday, 2nd August.

On arrival at around 5.40pm the crews found a large fire in the open involving around 70 bales of hay.

Firefighters used two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire, they also used farm machinery to help spread out the hay making it easier to extinguish the fire.

After extinguishing the fire, the crews also used thermal imaging cameras to monitor the temperature of the hay and hand appliances to turn it over.

Firefighters remain in attendance at the scene this morning. The crews are using two hose reel jets to dampen down and a thermal imaging camera to check for any hotspots.

The cause of the fire is believed to be deliberate and anyone with any information is asked to call Cheshire Police on 101 quoting
