The Post Office has announced they are planning to close a Wilmslow branch just nine months after it opened.

Chapel Lane Post Office, located within the McColls store at 90-92 Chapel Lane, will close in the new year.

Following the resignation of the postmaster, due to the shop at 90-92 Chapel Lane being closed down, the branch will close on January 13th 2020.

However, the Post Office has confirmed they are committed to providing services in the area and are seeking a new partner and premises.

A spokesperson for the Post Office said "Following the resignation of the postmaster Chapel Lane Post Office in Wilmslow will close temporarily on 13 January 2020.

"We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused by this temporary closure as we understand how important a Post Office can be to a community. We would also like to reassure customers that we will work hard to restore services to them as soon as possible. Any retailer or small business owner interested in running the Post Office and incorporating it into their business should ring 0333 345 5560 - option 2 and talk to an advisor or email [email protected] or visit www.runapostoffice.co.uk."

A McColl's Retail Group spokesperson said: "Having explored all options, regretfully we have taken the difficult decision to cease trading at the McColl's store on Chapel Lane in Wilmslow. The store's last day of trading will be Friday 17th January 2020.

"Obviously we are saddened to no longer be operating the store and our priority has been to support all affected colleagues through this process."

Why not reinstate the Hawthorn Lane existing post office, with some modernisation and improvement to parking ? .. just a thought .. the fabrics already there ...the detail may need updating though!

Unfortunately Nick, reopening Hawthorn Lane P O will not offer the service the PO wishes to bring to its customers in the Chapel Lane area, many of whom will find it too difficult to walk into town and back. Then we come to the inadequacy of our local bus services.
Hawthorn Lane maybe as a replacement of the current office in Tesco.

I will be sorry if the post office doesn’t find new premises, it has been a godsend, saving trips to Tesco to post things.the staff were always pleasant too.

I agree with the location issue. I was delighted when a Chapel Lane area post office reappeared. Life will become again more difficult without it.

The Hawthorn Lane building belongs to Royal Mail; a private company, totally separate from the Post Office; a wholly Government-owned plc.
