Alderley girls celebrate as top GCSE grades continue to rise

Alderley Edge School for Girls is enjoying continued success after the news of fantastic A Level results just last week with almost 30% of all GCSE grades having been awarded at the highest 9 or 8 grade - which represents more than a 7 percentage point increase on last year.

Girls at the school performed well across the board with the very highest grades of 9, 8 or 7, equivalent to former A*/A grades, being achieved by 94% of all pupils taking chemistry, 88% in history, 75% in computing and 83% in physical education.

13% of pupils achieved the equivalent of A*/A grades across the board and the school is celebrating some exceptional individual performances including Lara Coulter who achieved 8 grade 9s with a grade A^ (higher than an A*) in Further Mathematics whilst her twin Ella achieved 10 GCSEs at the equivalent A*/A grades.

Gracie O'Donnell and Alara Cooper, both from Alderley Edge, achieved 5 grade 9s and Amy Myers, also from Alderley Edge, was awarded 9 GCSEs at the very highest 9/8 grades.

Girls at the school are going onto study an array of exciting courses in the Sixth Form as they take the next steps towards university, apprenticeships or gap years in industry.

Helen Jeys, Headmistress of Alderley Edge School for Girls commented, "We are so delighted for all of our pupils who have – after all of their work and dedication – achieved grades of which they deserve to be proud. They manage to balance their academic studies alongside sporting, dramatic, creative and musical interests and we are proud of the mature young women they have become who, we know, will go onto achieve further success in the sixth form. Fantastic foundations have been set for their future!"
