Planning permission has been granted to change the use of an empty retail unit in the town centre to offices.

Cheshire East Council have approved plans to turn the first floor and mezzanine at 29 Alderley Road, the former Hooper menswear department, into offices along with alterations to the front elevation, to form a new access.

The retail unit has been vacant since Wardrobe, which had relocated from St Ann's Parade to Alderley Road, closed in July 2018 after trading in the town centre for over 40 years.

This is the third such conversation in the past three years. How many employees? How many additional cars to be parked in the already over-parked streets of Wilmslow? Planning consent for retail to offices conversions should take this factor into account no differently to the consent for new buildings.

The photo is deceptive. Its the first floor they are converting. Seems sensible to me as I don’t think the upstairs would needed for modern retailers.
