Flooded bypass reopens

The A34 Alderley Edge Bypass has now reopened.

Following heavy rainfall over the weekend the A34 Melrose Way had been closed in both directions since Sunday evening.

The photos above of the A34 Alderley Bypass flooding were taken at 6pm on Monday, 29th July, by a local resident who commented "Still plenty of land water filtering down from nearby fields meaning road will not be open for quite some time yet.".

Speaking yesterday evening, Cllr Craig Browne said "Engineers from Cheshire East Highways continue to pump flood water from the Alderley Edge bypass. It is hoped that the road will be able to reopen this evening."

This is shameful - two new roads in the area and neither of them seem to have adequate drainage. i hope the contractors are being sued over this!
