Pupils, staff and parents recently celebrated the renaming of Handforth Grange Primary in Handforth, Cheshire. The school, which was formally known as Wilmslow Grange Community Primary School and Nursery, was renamed Handforth Grange Primary School in recognition of its pride in the local community.
Wilmslow Grange was established in Handforth in 1951 but there was a school with Handforth in the name as far back as the 1892 census.
Handforth Grange also joined the Frank Field Education Trust on February 1st, which is a Multi Academy Trust formed with the explicit intention of delivering world-class education through academic excellence, a rich curriculum and wider opportunities for all children. The Trust is chaired by the Rt Hon Frank Field MP.
The school provided new uniform and PE kit to all its pupils free of charge, supported by the Frank Field Education Trust, in line with the Trust's vision of "Social Justice through Excellence in Education".
Mr Mark Unwin, Headteacher of Handforth Grange Primary School and Deputy CEO of the Trust said: "We are very proud to unveil our new name which reflects our pride in the community of Handforth. The children are very excited to wear their new uniform and PE kit, which was provided free of charge."
Rt. Hon. Frank Field MP stated: "We are delighted to welcome the outstanding Handforth Grange and to support its Governors and Leadership team in changing the school name to reflect pride in the local community. Our Trust aims to work at the heart of local communities to improve services and help families through excellence in education. Handforth Grange does this so well."
