Operatic Society seeks budding stars

Curvy ladies and energetic men required. Now how often do you hear that?

Alderley and Wilmslow Amateur Operatic Society, who are currently in rehearsal for their annual Spring concert "Got to sing, got to dance" will be staging the musical Mack and Mabel in November at the Evans Theatre Wilmslow.

Mack and Mabel is the story of the tumultuous relationship between Hollywood director Mack Sennett and Mabel Normand who became one of his biggest stars. In a series of flashbacks, Sennett relates the glory days of the Keystone Studios from 1911, when he discovered Normand and cast her in dozens of his early "two-reelers", through his invention of Sennett's Bathing Beauties and the Keystone Cops to Mabel's death in 1930.

Many people will recognise the overture to the show from 1982 when British ice skating team Torvill and Dean used it for their gold medal winning performance in the World Figure Skating Championships.

The Society have drawn together an extremely experienced production team and this promises to be a fun packed event with opportunities for ladies who aspire to be bathing beauties or men who think they might enjoy the rough and tumble of being a Keystone Cop.

For information on joining the Society in any capacity, front stage or back stage please contact Anne Hallworth. The Society are particularly keen to recruit a wardrobe mistress. This position would particularly suit someone with an interest in fashion or dress making.

Better still, come along and see the group in person when "Got to sing, got to dance" hits the stage at the Woodford Community Hall from the 22nd to 27th March. The show features songs and dance numbers from many well known musical favourites, showcasing the group's multi talented membership. Ticket available by email or on 08456034505. or [email protected].
