Hockey: Wilmslow ladies off to a flying start

With mens league hockey not due to restart until next week, Wilmslow Ladies certainly opened 2019 with a perfect set of results. All five teams won with a total of 25 goals scored

In a dour match all three goals were bizarrely own goals. Although not at their best Wilmslow exerted most pressure and just about deserved the three points to maintain their lead at the top of the table.

In the early stages of the game this looked a close match but eventually Di 'Sniffer' Law broke the deadlock. This was followed by a goal from Becca Healy which brought the score to 2-0 at half time. In the second half the Tangerines turned up the heat and the midfield combined well to overwhelm Knutsford with a further four goals, from Tracey Moir (2), Fi Campbell and Di Law.

Ladies 3rd beat Winnington Park 2nd away to consolidate their place in a three-horse race at the top.

Ladies 4th had the best result of the day beating table topping Runcorn 2nd by 6-1, each goal being scored by a different player

Ladies 5th youngsters comprehensively overran Sandbach 2nd to win 7-0.
