Police were alerted over the town centre radio at approximately 1pm that a wanted female Joanne Louise Smith, who they had previously been warned about, was in the town centre. Numerous officers attended the area to commence a search.

Police Sergeant John O'Driscoll said "Following that search I identified Smith on a pathway which ran alongside the A34 and commenced a foot pursuit which terminated on Leaside Way where I detained Smith."

Smith, 32, of Leaside Way in Wilmslow, was arrested and charged with breach of bail and failure to appear at Stockport Magistrates Court along with four counts of shoplifting from Tesco Express and Co-op on Water Lane, all of which occurred towards the end of December 2018.
