Wilmslow hotel plans for expansion

IMG_1396

Plans have been submitted to extend a Wilmslow hotel which lies within the Green Belt to provide additional accommodation.

Whitbread are proposing to build a part two/part three storey extension, which would comprise an annexe building, to the Premier Inn hotel on Racecourse Road as well as reconfiguring the car park.

The extension to the Wilmslow Premier Inn would provide an additional 30 rooms to make a total of 67 bedrooms.

To accommodate the annexe building, the on-site car parking provision would be reduced from 102 to 93 spaces for the shared use of the hotel and restaurant.

In addition, the scheme includes the demolition of the existing entrance lobby, which would be converted into accommodation, and the creation of a new entrance lobby.

The planning application can be viewed on the Cheshire East Council website by searching for planning reference 18/4715M The last date for submitting comments is 8th November and a decision is expected by 20th December.

An extra 30 bedrooms but a reduction of 9 parking spaces?

You don't think 102 spaces for a 37 room hotel was a smidge over specced?

@ Jon; it’s a Harvester pub during the day, have you ever tried to park there at check-in time?

"which lies within the Green Belt"

*sigh*

Green Belt means nothing to Cheshire East Council

Less parking means a likelihood of more parking on the roads - so how on earth in the present parking climate can CHESHIRE EAST PLANNING approve this? This hotel is just down the road from the airport and so I'm sure there will be requests for a package to include airport parking whilst on holiday as long as a room is booked either/both side/s of the holiday. The hotel might even offer it too or put in for permission to nab a bit more greenbelt to make a bigger car park some time in the future, which is just greenbelt death by nibbling away. The hotel will probably say they are creating more jobs [for people who don't live in Wilmslow] - which is another way of saying we intend to clog up the roads even more which is ok because everyone can park anywhere without yellow lines for as long as they like and nobody can do anything about it!

Pete - it must have got a lot busier than when I was last there a few years ago. Back then, you probably wouldn't have needed that many spaces if everyone who ate there all week turned up at the same time.

Can a clause such as , no future expansion plans will effect any surrounding green belt, be a condition of planning consent?
We should support local businesses where possible but ensure that our green space is not eroded for future generations.
It would be a shame if this place turned into an eyesore like the County in Alderley.
