Wilmslow Library hosted three awards ceremony on Monday 17th September for the youngsters who completed this year's Summer Reading Challenge.

Organised by the Reading Agency, The Summer Reading Challenge runs every year during the summer holidays encouraging children to read any six library books of their choice and collect stickers and incentives along the way to encourage them to keep going.

This year's theme was 'Mischief Makers', celebrating the 80th anniversary of the much-loved comic Beano which proved a very popular theme with over 600 children, aged between 3 and 11, starting the challenge and 323 managing to complete it by reading all six books.

One parent said "The kids were so excited to sign up. This summer they've begun to read alone when there's nothing to do."

Another parent commented "It has encouraged us to read more together during the holidays. My son has also discovered non-fiction books."

Wilmslow Library were delighted to welcome Mark Bayley (Head of Education Infrastructure and Outcomes at Cheshire East council), and Ian Ferguson and Mark Goldsmith from Wilmslow Town Council to award the children with their medal and certificate.

Librarian Marg Charlesworth said "We were delighted to welcome our guests of honour Mark Bayley (Head of Education Infrastructure and Outcomes at Cheshire East council), and Ian Ferguson and Mark Goldsmith from Wilmslow Town Council. They all helped to award the children with their special medal and certificate."
