"Special" weekend in Wilmslow

Special Constables described an operation which targeted anti social behaviour in Wilmslow and Macclesfield as "a huge success." The operation resulted in several arrests and the seizure of substantial quantities of alcohol from groups of under-age drinkers.

Specials led the operation last Friday and Saturday night (Feb 5th and 6th) to mark National Specials Weekend. Special Sergeant Pete Luscombe said, "We had fourteen Specials on Friday and 12 on Saturday, working alongside regular officers from Wilmslow, Macclesfield and Poynton Neighbourhood Policing Teams. On Friday we were joined by Cheshire’s Chief Constable, David Whatton."

"We carried out high visibility patrols at locations in the two towns where young people gather to drink and seized a considerable amount of alcohol. Then we went on to patrol the town centres and carried out licensing visits at premises in Wilmslow."

"Specials made two arrests in Wilmslow and one in Macclesfield. They were all drug related. We also assisted in five other arrests for a variety of offences."

Special Sergeant Phil Godson added, "It was a great example of the sort of work we are engaged in regularly at weekends. But this time we led the operation. We are able to make a real contribution towards keeping people safe on the estates and in the town centres."
