Slip road reopens ahead of schedule

IMG_1116

The slip road on to the A34 bypass, from the Dean Row Roundabout to the Dean Row Road Roundabout, has re-opened.

The slip road was scheduled to be closed for two weeks whilst the road was widened, however the work was completed a week ahead of schedule.

Makes a welcome change for roadworks to be completed with such speed. Thank you to the contractors, you did a great job.

I was very impressed, I went out sunday morning and they were working on it, when I came back at tea time the contractors had all gone and it was open. I thought that this job may have run over schedule, but to be ready early is a refreshing change and we thank them all.

Great work and all done ahead of schedule.I noticed it was a private contractor and they were on site for all 7 days from early morning to early evening.
This must be a first

Just remind me again, how many years did Cheshire East sit on the money they'd got from the developers before they were embarrassed into finally doing something ?

Martin has made an important point. Tens of thousands of motorists have had delayed/diverted journeys, burning unnecessary fuel, adding to illegal pollution levels. Why does our council treat so callously? They really don’t care, as well as being totally incapable of thinking through the economic consequences of their behaviour.

As a Project Manager I would be questioning how this job could be brought it at less than 50% of the projected time. In the real world this simply cannot happen. However in the world where Councils have sold off their services to the lowest bidder, these “success stories” (fake news) miracles seem to be on the up.

"As a Project Manager I would be questioning how this job could be brought it at less than 50% of the projected time"

Was it less than 50%? I understand they planned to close for 16 days and were actually closed for 9.

My guess is because they were starting very early, finishing very late in the evening, worked the weekends and had a lot of men on the job.

The contractor probably has a lot of work in the period of good weather and incentivises the men to work overtime and deliver so they can get on the to the next job.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if they managed to condense the work into that timeframe with all the extra hours they were putting in. I expect they also planned in some contingency they turned out not to need.

@ Jon.... hook, line and sinker! Do you work for one of these authorities... or do you provide “services” to them?

Let’s just put in our FOI requests to CEC to see how much the out-sourced Highways budget has gone above plan this year.
Tot them up since this fiasco began and let’s go looking for the (soon to be retired) Cllrs who signed us up for this scam in the first place. Tick, tock...

Fixed price contracts can be a great motivator to get the job done early. Perhaps that’s the reason why the job was done in half the planned time.

Yes Pete, pointing out the obvious factual errors in what you say means I'm a plant working for "them".

Gentlemen,

The improvements to this junction was a Condition stipulated when granting planning permission for the Bollin Park development off Adlington Road.

The improvements were paid for by the applicant, Jones Homes, and the work was undertaken by their contractors.

In that case the job should have been completed BEFORE any construction whatsoever commenced at Bollin Park. Why wasn't it?

I must commend the contractors for working throughout the period and completing the work ahead of schedule. Let's just leave it at that folks. It's done, completed well within the time-frame, looks great and will make a significant difference on that particular slip road.

I also noticed that the Hough Lane road closure wasn't operational over the weekend. Has this work also been completed? The signs were all up, but the road wasn't closed...

Folks,
There is plenty to complain about where CEC are concerned and 'independent' Toni Fox has once again provided the oil on the choppy water of discontent - now have the facts.
I too have been watching this project and want to offer credit where credit is due - the contractor did what we should expect from anyone else involved in these 'capital' infrastructure projects. Not only did they deliver within timescale but they left an immaculately completed site. They've set a benchmark for future CEC projects so watch this space Sandbach!!

Well done Lets hope in future , the same team can be used to complete projects smoothly and quickly.
Also hope that Sandbach has undergone some geographical training and will check in future before seemingly closing 2 entries to the A34 at the same time

It’s a damn discrace that they didn’t tidy up the roundabouts on the A35 at the bottom of the slip road while they were at it !! Cheshire East should be ashamed of themselves as it is a
Shabby mess and the arrow sign has been damaged for about 2 years

I can only second all the positive comments. It's no wonder it was completed in record time. They threw considerable amount of resource at this and worked effectively all available hours. Every time I went past there was an impressive amount of machinery plus a considerable number of workmen - seemingly more than I see working on the SEMMS sites?

Jones would appear to have a significantly better set of contractors/workmen than CEC.

Time to get the landscaping of the Summerfields / Bollin Park playing fields underway. Unfortunately CEC refused to let Jones undertake this and are now (not!) doing the work themselves even though (I assume) the section 106 money is already in the bank? It's probably dry now but will be a quagmire again in a few weeks. I understand that this is the route for Bollin Park residents to access their 'local'(!) shops at Summerfield Village.

John Faqllows, is there a footway from Bollin Park across the playing fields, then?

Queues again on the slip road today 20 August at 10 am

One of the new extra lanes closed off with a roadworks sign and traffic backing up yet again onto Dean Row Road Summerfields Village.

Anybody know why?
