Handforth voters back Neighbourhood Plan

handfroth

Handforth residents went to the polls for a referendum on Thursday, 12th July, to confirm whether or not they wanted the Handforth Neighbourhood Plan adopted.

The 5062 members of the electorate were given the opportunity to confirm whether they wanted their Neighbourhood Plan to become part of planning law, alongside the Cheshire East Local Plan.

The turnout was 19.6% with 992 votes counted. Of these, 807 were cast in favour of Cheshire East Council using the Neighbourhood Plan for Handforth to help decide applications in the neighbourhood area. 185 votes were cast against.

The Handforth Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group has been working on the document since November 2016.

The plan sets out objectives and priorities for the next 15 years, which are divided into six topics: Housing; Community and Well Being; Protecting the Natural and Built Environment; the Local Economy; Traffic and Transport and the North Cheshire Growth Village.

This is a misleading headline. Out of 5062 people only 992 bothered to vote. Of those only 807 said YES. That means 4255 who back it did not. That is hardly backing the plan as you state.

I disagree Clive. By “Handforth voters” I am referring to those people who voted in the referendum and the majority of those did back the plan.

Those who did not participate were not voters in this referendum.
