Town Council refurbishes telephone box

The traditional red telephone box that has stood outside the Unicorn Pub for many years has undergone a full external refurbishment as part of a project to enhance the gateways in to Wilmslow.

Town Clerk Matthew Jackson said "The Town Council has previously introduced 'welcome' signage and floral planters to the key gateway entrances in to Wilmslow but recognised that the rather shaby looking telephone box, located as yout enter Wilmsow from the Woodford direction, gave the wrong impression of how we valued our town."

The telephone box has been decommissioned for a number of years, however it is highly valued by local residents.

The refurbishment has been funded by Wilmslow Town Council who have provided the manpower and the replacement glazing units.

During the spring the traditional black and white directional posts around the Wilmslow Parish were also repainted after many years of neglect.

Great initiative for both the kiosk and the posts. Well done to everyone involved.

Hi Drew,

Yes I agree with your thoughts.

We all thank Wilmslow Town Council for what they try tirelessly to acheive for the good of residents and businesses alike.

And all too often this is in the face of adversity (no prizes for guessing what or who but here is a clue... it's off Dean Row Road, Summerfields)

Does this telephone box serve as anything more than street decoration (not that there's anything wrong with street decoration) For example, does it house a defibrillator or an informal 'library'?

No but its a good place for customers of the pub to relieve themselves when they leave
