Wilmslow Show to stage WW1 re-enactment

Reenactment2-630x445

Plans are well underway for this year's Wilmslow Show and Fun Day which will take place at the Carnival Field on Sunday 8th July.

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of World War 1, the main feature in the arena will be a WW1 re-enactment group, complete with cavalry horses. The group will also have an encampment on the field, giving members of the public the chance to ask questions about how it would have felt to be a soldier during the Great War.

The re-enactment group have won a number of awards and spend their summer travelling the country to put on displays, though this is the first time they have been to Wilmslow.

They will be joined by a number of other performers in the main arena including Gemma Leopold and her mini Shetland display, Sirens Sound Choir and the Jordan Dance School. There will also be musical performers on the band stand throughout the day and this year 'The Evans Arts Trust' have given the Show a grant to help support the large number of live arts performances which will be taking place throughout the day.

The fun dog show will be back this year as will the car show and the horticultural marquee will contain the wonderful floral displays and the many competition entries. This year there will be more animals on display and free donkey rides will be available for younger children again. Additionally there will be a small fun fair, zorbing, football skill games and a number of free activities throughout the day.

Chairman Angela McPake said "We are very lucky to get financial support from Wilmslow Town Council. That means we can keep the entrance charges at an affordable level as well as allowing us to make sure some of the games, the donkey rides, entry to the dog show (as well as all the entertainment) are free once you are on the showground. For those on a budget, the Show should still provide a great day out. There are also a number of chargeable games and activities as well as a number of traders on site and we would encourage those who can, to support those people as well!"

As well as a range of artisan producers and traders, there will be a number of community groups represented, including the Wilmslow Neighbourhood Plan Group who will be able to update residents on the latest stage of the plan process.

Angela added "We are in our second year back at the Carnival Field so have a much better idea on how to make the most of the lay-out and where we can add new attractions and perhaps update others. We are looking forward to the show and are sure that everyone who attends will find plenty of interest, whether they are 5 or 85!"

Pre-purchased tickets are available now online, with a reduction for pre-purchased family tickets.

This year's show is on Sunday 8th July, from 11am-5pm at the Carnival Field. There will be a free park and ride service operating from Broadway Meadow Car Park throughout the day.

Plus Hearing Dogs for Deaf People have a stand again this year.
Puppies being socialised and in training will be there for you to meet and greet. It’s an important part of their socialising and you all can help.
Wilmslow residents have been extraordinarily generous and kind to our pups in so many ways.
Thankyou all!
