29-year-old local woman dies after hit and run in Handforth

A 29-year-old woman from the Handforth area has sadly died after being hit by a car which was involved in three seperate collisions.

At approximately 7.45am on Monday, 21st May, police officers were called to reports of a collision between a silver Ford Fiesta and a white Jaguar outside Wilmslow Garden Centre on Manchester Road.

The driver of the Fiesta failed to stop and a continued to drive onto Wilmslow Road where he was involved in a second collision with a pedestrian near to the Freemasons Arms.

The Fiesta again continued to drive along Manchester Road and eventually came to a stop after colliding with a parked car outside Handforth Garage.

The pedestrian sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Royal Salford Hospital. Sadly, she died later that day. Her next of kin have been informed and they are currently being supported by specialist family liaison officers.

The driver of the Fiesta, a 53-year-old man from Stockport was arrested at the scene on suspicion of failing to stop after a collision. He was later released under investigation and taken to Wythenshawe Hospital. He remains released under investigation pending further enquiries.

The driver and two passengers from the Jaguar sustained minor injuries, whilst the vehicle parked outside Handforth Garage was unattended.

Sergeant Anton Sullivan said: "This incident took place at a busy time of day and I believe that it may have been witnessed by many other motorists and pedestrians who could assist with our investigation.

"I urge anyone who witnessed the collisions, or who believes that they have any information which could assist the investigation, to contact the Roads Policing team on 101.

"I'm particularly keen to hear from motorists who were traveling along Manchester Road and Wilmslow Road at the time of the incident and have recorded any dashcam footage of the collision."
