Cricket: Poor performance a wake-up call for Squirrels

C8S3HRK1

A match winning 122 second wicket partnership saw Ashley secure a comfortable win at the Rectory. Whilst the class was evident, Ashley's Critcheley (74) and Martinich (54) were not tested by a generous Squirrels attack that let slip a boundary ball each over.

Earlier, invited to bowl first Ashley bowled with a commendable and consistent line and length never allowing the home side to get on top. Elliot Rowe as ever, showed the patience and application required, for his 77no. Only Ethan Harding (20), stuck around. The pick of the visitors bowling was Hamza Butt 14 overs 2 for 17.

For the home team, this is a wake up call, for what was a dozy performance. Full credit to Ashley, who on this showing, will compete well at this level.

The newly promoted second XI after an opening day win, found things a little more difficult at Ashley. A creditable 172, provided a challenging target but not unfortunately, a winning one. Ashley won, with 10 balls to spare and 7 wickets still remaining. Waqar Malik (41), and Toby Ward (37) batted well, Imran Ashraf with 2 wickets was the best of the bowlers.

Next week sees the 1st XI away and the 2nds at home vs Trinity, we also see the debut of the 3rd XI. Wilmslow CC welcomes cricketers of all standards, phone Mike 0n 07969291412 for details.
