Incredible volunteers needed to keep town centre looking green

Incredible Edible Wilmslow are appealing for more local residents to turn out to support their efforts to keep Wilmslow town centre looking green and bursting with plants to harvest.

This will be their ninth year of growing edible plants across Wilmslow town centre, which passers by are encouraged to pick and use at home, as a way of sharing growing knowledge around herbs, fruit and vegetable crops.

Helen Yates, chair of the group told wilmslow.co.uk "It really makes a big difference to what we can achieve when extra members turn out. We have a small group of regulars but this has declined in recent months, so we are in real need of some new volunteers now to give us a fresh burst of energy for 2018."

The most immediate scheduled sessions, starting at the planters by Wilmslow Library, are from 2pm to 4pm on Sunday 6th May, Sunday 3rd June and Sunday 1st July.

Helen added "Additional ad hoc week day sessions will also be added as we lead up to supporting Wilmslow In Bloom in the town's entry to the In Bloom competition in the early summer months."

Incredible Edible Wilmslow can provide tools and equipment that you will need but you can bring along your own gloves and tools if you prefer.

The colour of the poster is, perhaps, slightly unfortunate; is that shade Lyme Green?

Incredible Edible through its founder in Wilmslow, Helen Yates (pictured left on the above photograph) has made a substantial impact to the appearance of the town not simply by adopting neglected soil beds and attractively replanting but also by spearheading our In Bloom entry at which we have been so demonstrably successful.
Both In Bloom, which I am privileged to Chair, and Incredible Edible, to which I am a contributor, bring physical and visual benefits to the centre of town and to identified outlying areas.
The group has become wide ranging and influential and would welcome additional members both to keep the existing projects up to scratch and to encourage a wider participation.
Do join us at our next meeting at 2pm on Sunday 6 May by the library. Everyone, with or without gardening experience, is welcome, not least Mr Taylor. May and June are busy times for those involved in vegetable gardening so this will be a critical event to shape the productivity and appearance of the raised beds in this town centre location.
