Trial of police sergeant charged with murdering his detective wife starts next week

The trial of police sergeant from Wilmslow who has been accused of murdering his detective wife Leanne McKie will start next week.

The Darren McKie trial is due to commence at Chester Crown Court on Monday, 5th March, and is scheduled to last for three weeks.

McKie, 44, from Burford Close is charged with the murder of Leanne McKie, 39, who was found dead at Poynton Lake in the early hours of Friday 29th September 2017.

He appeared at Chester Crown Court on Friday 5th January 2018, via video link from prison, and pleaded not guilty to both murder and manslaughter.

The father of three was arrested in the early hours of Friday 29th September and subsequently charged with murder on Monday, 2nd October 2017.

Leanne McKie, 39, served with Greater Manchester Police since 2001, working in the Serious Sexual Offences Unit.
