Wilmslow gets into the festive spirit with Christmas lights switch on

The annual switch-on event, organised by the Town Council, took place in Wilmslow town centre on Saturday, 25th November.

Once again the reindeer proved popular with children and parents as large numbers flocked to see them in Romany's Garden and to follow them as they paraded through the town pulling Santa's sleigh.

Crowds gathered at the stage on South Drive to see performances from Magic Voices, Wilmslow High School Choir, Alderley and Wilmslow Musical Theatre Company and Drew Selby.

Real Housewife of Cheshire Lauren Simon was joined on stage by Santa and lucky competition winners Jasmine and Alexandra, to push the plunger and switch on the lights to mark the start of the run up to Christmas.

The Christmas lights are once again funded and organised by Wilmslow Town Council and have been upgraded at Bank Square, Romany's Garden opposite the library and at Morley Green.

Cllr Angela McPake, Chairman of the Events Working Group said, "We were delighted by the turnout, and the stage at South Drive allowed for good viewing, the Reindeer again proved to be the star attraction and appear to get more popular every year. Wilmslow Town Council are delighted to bring joy to the young people of the town, whilst at the same time launching the Christmas trading period for all of our Town Centre businesses.

"We hope that Wilmslow residents will support its local retailers over Christmas and enjoy the festive season."
