Talented youngsters will be playing an important role as Handforth kicks off the festive season next week.

Handforth Parish Council ran a poster design competition in conjunction with local schools, the winner of which was 5-year-old Felix McKay who gets to push the big button at the Handforth Christmas lights switch on at The Paddock on Saturday, 25th November.

The second prize was awarded to Olivia Facchin, aged 9, and third place was given to Helena Vale, aged 6.

Whilst Phebe Mallinson, aged 9, won a special place on the stage at the switch on for submitting a poem, which she will read out on the day.

The celebrations will kick off with a not-for-profit community led Christmas market, bouncy castle and entertainment from 1pm.

Crowds can also visit Santa in his Grotto, see live reindeer and enjoy musical performances from YSBD Theatre Academy, the salvation army who will be playing Christmas classics and a local rock choir.

The switch on will then take place at 4:30pm at the bandstand.

Parish Clerk Ashley Comiskey Dawson said "To avoid disappointment please ensure you are there between 1:30pm and 3:30pm to see Santa, as he is very busy this time of year."

Thanks to Handforth Parish Council for another great lights display in Handforth and for organising a great community event on Saturday. Santa and the reindeer were a huge hit and despite the cold, it was great to see so many excited children and their families out enjoying the fun.
