Handforth is preparing for a bigger and better Christmas lights switch on event which will see the village decorated with more lights this year.

Arrangements have been made for the Christmas lights to extend further down Wilmslow Road and on both sides this year. Handforth Parish Council has also decided to relocate the Christmas tree to outside of Handforth Library.

The Handforth Christmas lights switch on will be held at The Paddock on Saturday, 25th November when the celebrations will kick off with a not-for-profit community led Christmas market, bouncy castle and entertainment from 1pm.

Crowds can also visit Santa in his Grotto, see live reindeer and enjoy musical performances from YSBD Theatre Academy, the salvation army who will be playing Christmas classics and a local rock choir.

The switch on will then take place at 4:30pm at the bandstand.

Parish Clerk Ashley Comiskey Dawson said "Handforth Parish Council are currently running a poster design competition in conjunction with local schools. Deadline for entries to our "design a poster advertising the Handforth Xmas lights switch on event" is November the 9th - in readiness to be printed up to advertise the event the following week.

"The winner of the competition gets to push the big button at the event and will also win a prize, there will be some runner up prizes as well."
