A police sergeant has appeared in court after being charged with the murder of his detective wife Leanne McKie.
Darren McKie, 43, from Burford Close, Wilmslow, appeared at South Cheshire Magistrates' Court in Crewe this morning (Tuesday 3rd October).
Mr McKie was arrested in the early hours of Friday 29th September after the body of Leanne McKie, 39, was found in a lake at Poynton Park. He was subsequently charged with murder on Monday, 2nd October.
A court spokesperson confirmed "No plea was taken as the matter is indictable only."
Mr McKie is now due to appear at Chester Crown Court tomorrow (Wednesday, 4th October) at 10am.
The spokesperson added "He was remanded in custody as the magistrates have no power to grant bail in a murder case."
