Choir concert to support creation of community space

Local choir Magic Voices will be performing a concert to help support the refurbishment of a Wilmslow church.

The singers from Wilmslow, Hale and Marple choirs will take the stage at Wilmslow United Reformed Church on Saturday, 16th September, at 7.30pm.

Conductor Mike Bramhall, until recently a teacher at Wilmslow High School, will lead the 80 strong choir in a programme of songs from popular music shows and other light music.

Magic Voices has singers from 18 years of age to 90, all of whom provide their services free of charge.

The money raised will help to fund the church's complete renewal of the level below the worship area in its Victorian building. The undercroft will soon provide a much needed community space which will be the base for Wilmslow Youth, a joint venture of Wilmslow United Reformed Church and Life Church Wilmslow which supports students at Wilmslow High School.

Matt Williamson, youth work consultant, commented "The concert is a great opportunity to raise funds and awareness about Wilmslow Youth and we hope the church will be full. Those who have heard Magic Voices before know this is a treat not to be missed."

When the building work is finished, Wilmslow Youth will start hosting afterschool and evening events for local young people in the new space. They already offer regular lunchtime activities and help with student mentoring to support the school's Wellbeing Hub.

Matt Williamson and fellow youth work consultant Gemma Tuson have involved young people from the school in planning the new space.

Wilmslow United Reformed Church has benefited from a Public Health grant which is being used to help cover the costs of this project along with fundraising activities carried out by church members and additional grants.

Tickets, costing £10, and include wine, soft drinks and nibbles at the interval and are on sale from the church on 01625 532600 or on the door.

With public space at such a premium in Wilmslow the United Reformed Church project is a wonderful form of outreach into our community. This is a great cause supported by a great choir - please come along and give your support!
