Wayne Rooney charged with drink-driving in Wilmslow

Wayne Rooney has been charged with drink-driving in the early hours of this morning.

England's top goalscorer was stopped just after 2am on Friday, 1st September, whilst driving a Volkswagen Beetle on Altrincham Road in Wilmslow.

According to the Metro, the Former England captain had been in The Bubble Room in Alderley Edge prior to his arrest where he was seen dancing on the tables and singing Oasis songs.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said "Cheshire Police has charged a man with drink-driving following a vehicle stop in Wilmslow.

"The man was arrested shortly after 2.00am today, Friday 1 September, after officers stopped a black VW Beetle on Altrincham Road, Wilmslow.

"Wayne Rooney, aged 31, of Prestbury, has since been charged with driving whilst over the prescribed limit."

Wayne Rooney has been released on bail and is due to appear at Stockport Magistrates' Court on Monday, 18th September.
