Firefighters held a special event in Wilmslow on Tuesday, 22nd August, to try and reduce anti-social behaviour and arson in the town centre.

Firefighters on Delta Watch worked with the Cheshire Fire Protection team and the Wilmslow Clean Team to hold a mini impact day during with they gave out advice to shopkeepers to try and reduce the number of arson attacks in the town.

During the first three months of the year there were nine small fires around the retail units in the town centre, compared with 20 in the entire previous year.

Due to the increased frequency of the arson incidents, the protection team spent the day speaking to shop owners to pass on safety messages about how small businesses could reduce the number of fires.

Watch Manager Kevin Grace said: "By close working relationships with the town centre shops and Wilmslow Clean Team, we can stamp out the deliberate fires. By educating the public to dispose of their litter in the bins and make shop staff more vigilant with their recycling and waste, we can make the town centre clean and reduce the arson activity to zero."
