Cheshire East Council has approved the second round of community grants for 2017/18, with awards totalling £44,812 having been allocated to voluntary and community organisations which meet the criteria approved by Cheshire East Council.

Amongst the successful applicants are Dean Row Village Hall, Friends of Stanley Hall Park, Wilmslow Bowling Club and Wilmslow Royal British Legion.

Dean Row Village Hall, which is used by many different community groups, were awarded the £5000 they requested to go towards a new roof to prevent the closure of the hall. The organisation is contributing towards the £25,000 project themselves and has been working hard to bring in other funding.

The Friends of Stanley Hall Park were also awarded the £5000 they requested to improve the path which runs around the park giving access to the fields and pond, which are currently not accessible for wheelchair users and those with prams.

The friends group has a 5 year plan to improve the facilities at Stanley Hall Park through fundraising. The total cost of the project is £12,000 and they have applied to Handforth Parish Council and Manchester Airport Community Fund as well as carrying out their own fundraising to meet the shortfall.

Additionally, Wilmslow Bowling Club are to receive the £5000 grant they applied for to go towards the £18,000 required to replace floodlights that were demolished in Storm Doris. The club will be contributing to the project themselves as well as applying elsewhere.

Meanwhile Wilmslow Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal were awarded £1000 of the £4,870 they requested to fund the printing of programmes, certificates and trophies for a thank you event for the young people that helped to collect for the Poppy Appeal. The Council awarded £1,000 on the condition that the group secures the remaining event costs.

However, grant applications from Wilmslow Parish Food Friend and Alderley Edge Methodist Church were both declined.

Wilmslow Parish Food Friend appled for £1000 to purchase food to make up the food parcels that they distribute to those in need throughout the area. However, this was declined because "food or running costs is not something that can be covered by the scheme".

Alderley Edge Methodist Church applied for £5000 funding to improve the kitchen and foyer areas of the church so that it is suitable for the large events that it caters for. The total cost of the project is nearly £11,000. The Church has been unsuccessful with an application to Wren but has said they will be contributing the remaining project costs themselves. The grant was declined due to funding already received from Cheshire East.
