Summer Party raises £400 for British Heart Foundation

Wine, cream, jam and cake were on the menu when the Wilmslow branch of the British Heart Foundation abandoned a healthy diet to hold its annual Summer Party last weekend. Furthermore, it called on Healthy Hearts, the local fund raising group, to help in arranging its annual party in the Village Hall at Chorley.

After a welcome glass of sparkling wine there was the usual summer fare of scones topped with strawberries and clotted cream. Cups of tea and assorted cakes followed. To exercise the brains there were two competitions: a quiz with twenty questions on the subject of summer and a cryptic puzzle on well-known sayings. Plus A raffle with a selection of prizes.

Over forty attended to support the branch's ninth summer party and its second to be held in a hall under cover. The unreliable British weather having forced the branch to abandon its former open-air garden site.

At the close, Joan Cracknell, the branch chairman said, "This party is always an enjoyable occasion and thanks go to those who have helped, especially those who slaved over a hot stove, baking the many scones and cakes. I want to thank everyone who turned up to support us and am pleased to report that they have helped raise over £400 which as usual will go to support the BHF's life saving research programme."
