Now in its 12th year the ever popular Wizard 5 Mile running race took place on Thursday, 13th July.
Organised by Wilmslow Running Club, 241 runners set off from the National Trust site at Alderley Edge following the wonderful route through the woods, trails and paths around the Edge and out to Hare Hill.
The race was won by Fraser MacDonald-Oulds of Chorlton Runners, with Diane McVey of Wilmslow Running Club first woman.
The team prizes went to Wilmslow for the men and Chorlton Runners for the women. Several other local running clubs were represented, including Macclesfield Harriers and Bramhall Runners.
The race proceeds of around £1,100 will be donated to the Stockport Cerebral Palsy Society, whose supporters marshalled the course, giving support and encouragement to the runners. Whilst volunteers from Cheshire Search and Rescue, provided first-aid support.
Andy Watts, Organiser on behalf of Wilmslow Running Club, said "The Wizard 5 race is always great fun and popular with club runners and occasional runners alike. It combines a challenging course with an informal atmosphere in the lovely Cheshire countryside."
He added "We always get comments about how much the runners enjoyed the route, and many participants have been introduced to the Edge and Hare Hill areas by taking part."
